European Championship: Armenia teams suffer defeat

In the 5th round of the European Team Chess Championship underway in Batumi, Georgia the Armenia team conceded 1.5։2.5 to the Russia team, suffering its first defeat.
Levon Aronyan, Hrant Melkumyan and Gabriel Sargsyan tied their matches while Pashik Alaverdyan, playing on board 4, lost.
After the 5th round the Armenia team shares the 5-8 places with 7 points.
The Armenia women’s team was beaten 5։2.5 by the Georgia team.
Number four Anna Sargsyan celebrated victory, Lilit Mkrtchyan’s game was a draw and Elina Danielyan and Maria Gevorgyan conceded.
After round 5 the Armenia women’s team shares the 8-12 places with 6 points.
In round 6, which will be played on 29 October, the Armenia team will compete with Slovenia and the women’s team will face Latvia.
