14:35 - 20 Mar, 2019

The presentation of the 32nd Summer Olympic Games’ Torch was held in the capital of Japan, Tokyo on March 20. The torch made of aluminum weighs 1.2 kg.

From above the torch resembles sakura which is the national symbol of Japan. The choice of the torch metal is not accidental. After the 2011 earthquake and tsunami many people lived in temporary housing. That way the torch designers wanted to commemorate the victims of the tragedy of March 11, 2011.
The Olympic Torch will be lit on very March 20, 2020. The torch will return to Japan on March 20 and 6 days later the Olympic Torch Relay will commence. First the Olympic Torch will travel to the locations most affected by the earthquake and tsunami 8 years ago. The Torch Relay is expected to launch from the Fukushima Prefecture. The Torch bearers will take the torch to Tokyo in 121 days where on July 24 the solemn opening ceremony of the Olympics will be held. The organizers of the Tokyo 2020 have also chosen the concept of the Torch Relay which is “Hope lights our way”.
The Tokyo Olympics will be held from July 24 to August 9, 2020.
