Arsen Harutyunyan: When you enter the mat it doesn’t matter anything, even your rival’s titles

Member of the Armenia freestyle wrestling team, current European champion Arsen Harutyunyan in a conversation with journalists told about his expectations of the upcoming World Championship which will be held in Kazakhstan’s capital, Nur-Sultan, from September 14-22.

“After Stepan Sargsyan Tournament we left for Sochi for a training camp.  And now we are having a training camp here in order to set off for the World Championship in our best physical condition. We’ll try to live up the coaches’ expectations. I don’t think it will be tough in the 57 kg weight class; every weight class has its difficulties. If you manage to become a champion in a higher weigh class (at the European Championship Arsen Harutyunyan became a champion in the 61 kg weight class) the rest shouldn’t bother you. When you enter the mat it doesn’t matter anything, even your rival’s titles. They have won those titles in the past tournaments while here is the new one where new champions are determined,” he said.

Arsen Harutyunyan is leaving for the World Championship for one purpose: “I’m going to the World Championship for a good participation, I don’t think of becoming a champion but to show on the mat what I was taught,” the wrestler concluded.

At the World Championship Armenia will be represented by the following wrestlers: Arsen Harutyunyan (57kg), Vazgen Tevanyan (65 kg), Varuzhan Kajoyan (74 kg), Grigor Grigoryan (79 kg), Hovhannes Mkhitaryan (86 kg) and Levan Berianidze (125 kg).
