World Cup: Levon Aronyan reaches 1/8 final

In the second game of the 1/16 final of the FIDE World Cup underway in Russian Khanty-Mansiysk Levon Aronyan won Russian Maxim Matlakov with black pieces and reached the next round.
The first game played on September 16 had ended in a tie.
The other three Armenian representatives at the World Chess Cup dropped out of the competition.
Robert Hovhannisyan and Armenia’s current champion Arman Pashikyan failed to overcome the first round and Sergei Movsesyan lost to Chinese Ding Liren in the second round.
