The Organising Committee of the 32nd Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 has closed the submission of the Olympic torchbearer applications. The Tokyo 2020 organisers have received 535.717 applications from residents of Japan from June this year. Overall 10.000 torchbearers will be chosen regardless of sex, age and nationality. The names of the winners will be announced in December this year.
The Olympic Torch Relay will kick off in Japan on March 26, 2020. First the Olympic Torch will travel to those cities which were most damaged by earthquake and tsunami 8 years ago. The Torch Relay is planned to start from the National Training Centre in Fukushima. The torchbearers will take the Olympic flame to Tokyo in 121 days where on July, 2020 the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games will take place.
Earlier, the Tokyo 2020 organisers had chosen the theme of the Olympic Torch Relay which is “Hope Lights Our Way”.
