World Championship: Arsen Harutyunyan and Vazgen Tevanyan suffer defeat

On September 19 freestyle wrestlers started their performances at the World Wrestling Championship underway in Kazakh capital Nur-Sultan. On the first competition day Armenia had 2 representatives, Arsen Harutyunyan (57 kg) and Vazgen Tevanyan (65 kg) who suffered defeat after having a victorious start.

European current champion Arsen Harutyunyan started from the 1/16 final where won 9:4 Georgian Otari Gogova. In the 1/8 final the Armenian wrestler lost 6:17 to Indian Kumar Ravi.
On the first minutes of the bout Harutyunyan was winning 6:0 but failed to advance.
If the Indian wrestler qualifies for the final the Armenian representative will get a chance to fight for a bronze medal.
European U23 champion Vazgen Tevanyan won 5:3 Ukraine’s Gor Ogannesyan in the qualification round but lost 0:6 to world current champion Japanese Takuto Otoguro in the 1/16 final. The Japanese wrestler was beaten in the next match and Tevanyan lost the chance to wrestle for a bronze medal.
At the World Championship the Armenia freestyle wrestling team will also be represented by Varuzhan Kajoyan (74 kg), Grigor Grigoryan (79 kg), Hovhannes Mkhitaryan (86 kg) and Levan Berianidze (125 kg).
