Armenia’s Davit Ovasapyan (130 kg) became a bronze medalist of the U U23 Senior World Greco-Roman Championship underway in Budapest, Hungary.
The Armenian wrestler won 5:5 Kazakh Mansur Shadukayev in the bout for a bronze medal.
On 2 November Norayr Hakhoyan (55 kg) wrestled for bronze too but lost 2:7 to Azerbaijani Zaur Aliyev. Hakhoyan, who had lost the first fight on 1 November, had won Hungarian Richard Racz (8:0) and Indian Arjun Halakurki (10:2) in two repechage bouts.
Of 4 representatives came out today Armen Melikyan (60 kg) celebrated 3 victories and qualified for the final. On 3 November he will face Kyrgyzstan’s Zholaman Sharshenbekov.
Hayk Melikyan (67 kg) lost in the first bout and left the competition and Hrant Kalachyan (72 kg) and Arman Vardumyan (82 kg) lost in the quarterfinal after starting with a win. Arman Vardumyan has got a chance to wrestle for a bronze medal on November 3. He will face Turkmenistan’s Toyly Orazov in the repechage round.
Let us recall Armenia Greco-Roman wrestling team members Slavik Galstyan (63 kg), Vahe Poghosyan (77 kg) and Albert Yeghikyan (87 kg) didn’t manage to win medals in the World Championship.
