From 16-17 November the Noragavit Fencing Sports School hosted an international fencing tournament which was attended by 110 athletes from Armenia and Georgia. After the opening ceremony of the tournament Armen Grigoryan, the president of the Fencing Federation of Armenia and adviser to the president of the NOC of Armenia, spoke about the importance of the tournament in a conversation with the ANOC press service.
“Cadets are taking part in the tournament too, here we also have members of the Georgia team. We want the cadets to develop together. The tournament is very useful because everything begins from this age. The purpose is to see the athletes here in the national team. We have promising fencers who will show their abilities in the future.
Next year the national team will take part in a qualifying tournament and in case of good results we will have a participant in the Tokyo Olympic Games.
Next year the geography of the tournament will be extended (in previous years the tournament was also attended by athletes from Russia, USA and Kuwait).
I give much importance to such tournaments because if we have a right and good base we will have a bright future as well,” Armen Grigoryan said.
