European Championship: Wrestler Karapet Chalyan will fight for bronze

The last day of the European Championship underway in Riga has kicked off.

Wrestlers of 71kg, 75kg, 80kg and 85kg weight classes competed.
In the qualification round Karapet Chalyan (75kg) competed with Germany’s Jan Rotter managing to win 7:6 in a stiff fight. In the 1/8 finals Chalyan defeated 10:5 a Bulgarian wrestler. In the quarterfinals the Armenian wrestler lost to Georgia’s Zurabi Datunashvili (0:8) who qualified for the finals letting Chalyan continue the struggle. The Armenian wrestler beat 8:0 Turkey’s Emrah Suleyman Kus in the repechage. For the bronze medal the Armenian wrestler will compete against Azerbaijan’s Elvin Mursaliev.
Rafik Manukyan (80kg) started the competition from the 1/8 finals where he won 4:2 a Ukrainian wrestler. In the quarterfinals Manukyan was defeated 2:2 by Poland’s Edgar Babayan who qualified for the finals letting Manukyan continue the fight. Unfortunately, in the repechage Armenia’s representative lost 0:2 to
Turkey’s representative.
Maksim Manukyan (85kg) won 3:0 a Czech opponent in the qualification round but lost 11:6 to Russia’s Evgeny Saleev because of referees’ unfair judgment. Manukyan dropped out of the competition.
On the eve Varsham Boranyan of 71kg weight class has qualified for the finals.
