Armenia Greco-Roman wrestling team member Varsham Boranyan became a gold medalist of the European Wrestling Championship.
At the European Championship drawing to a close in the Latvian capital Riga Armenia’s Varsham Boranyan (71kg) competed with Serbia’s Aleksandar Maksimovich. Boranyan deafeted the Serb wrestler 3:0.
On the eve Varsham Boranyan had won 8:0 Romania’s Tomi Claudiu Hinoveaunu in the qualification round. In the 1/8 finals the Armenian wrestler had prevailed on Hugo Miguel Da Silva. In the quarter-finals Boranyan had gained advantage 8:2 over a Bulgarian wrestler. And reaching the quarter-finals Boranyan defeated 2:1 Hungary’s Balint Korpasi.
