Memorial tournament after Zinaida Simonyan came to a close

The 5th Memorial tournament after Zinaida Simonyan came to a close at the Children and Youth Shooting Sports School. This year Georgia’s team took part in the traditional tournament for the first time.
In the boys air gun event the winner became Vrezh Torosyan, Hayk Babayan and Hrachik Babayan came second and third, respectively. In the girls event Alla Poghosyan, Mariam Mikaelyan and Svetlana Tigranyan were named the best 3 shooters.
At air pistol the first place was taken by Georgian Tcotne Machavariani, the second and the third places – by Akaki Mosushvili and Norayr Arakelyan, respectively. The best result among girls was registered by Olympic champion Nino Salukvadze. Elmira Karapetyan and Gohar Danielyan came in second and third.
In the air gun, running target, normal race event Shant Sargsyan earned the highest points. He was followed by Hovhannes Khachatryan and Razmik Minasyan. Among girls the best 3 positions were taken by Lilith Mkrtchyan, Gohar Harutyunyan and Laura Avetisyan.
“Overall the team members performed well at the Memorial tournament. If we had the same results at the European Championship we would qualify for the Olympics”, team’s head coach Seyran Nikoghosyan said to the ANOC press service.
Vice President of the National Olympic Committee of Armenia Derenik Gabrielyan also attended the tournament. “This tournament is dedicated to the memory of our beloved Zinaida Simonyan. She was a real legend, such athletes are very few”, Gabrielyan said.
A total of 24 medals were bestowed and 85 athletes took part in the tournament.
Zinaida Simonyan was a four-time world, European, Soviet Union and Armenian multiple champion and an author of many records.
