Leading player of the Armenia chess team Levon Aronyan has shared 5-7th places of the Grenke Chess Classic held in Germany.
In the last, 9th round the Armenian GM tied the game with Fabiano Caruana (USA) playing with black pieces and ended the tournament with 4,5 points. Peter Svidler (Russia) and world former champion Viswanathan Anand (India) also scored the same points.
World current champion Magnus Carlsen (Norway) became the winner of the tournament with 7,5 points celebrating 6 wins in 9 rounds. Runner-up Fabiano Caruana gained 6 points, and 3-4th places holders Maxime Vachiev-Lagrave (France) and Arkadij Naidich (Azerbaijan) each gained 5 points.
Earlier in the previous 8 rounds Levon Aronyan had tied the games with Germans Georg Meier and Vincent Keymer, Spanish Francisco Vallejo, Maxime Vachiev-Lagrave, Viswanathan Anand and Arkadij Naidich, had won Peter Svidler and lost to Magnus Carlsen.
Levon Aronyan had become the winner of the Grenke Сhess Сlassic in 2017.
